The First #sweatwithMe
Let’s get sweaty friends!
There was no way I would get through more than a couple of posts without bringing up fitness. Okay, you caught me, I snuck some of that into the last post with my balance board analogy… I am a former fitness coach, after all. Anyway, it’s time for a #sweatwithme post, not be confused with #movewithme. Well, maybe a little confused, because yes, this could still be a move with me post… but, if you were hoping for movement with no sweat (or light sweat), this won’t be for you.
How have I been sweating? HUSTL.ONLINE.
I spent eight years as a bit of a gym junkie, but in the last four, I can count on one hand how many times I’ve set foot into a gym. Twice. I’ve remained active and retained a reasonable amount of muscle by rotating through different home workouts. I’ve done shadowboxing/kickboxing, mat pilates, HIIT, dance, mobility, step, dumbbell and kettlebell workouts, all at home. I spent a summer taking tennis lessons and practising at least once or twice per week. Tennis is killer cardio and equally sweaty, btw. Except for a couple of workout programs, Apple Fitness, and tennis, I have mostly stuck to free workout videos; YouTube is great if you find the right people to follow. A few weeks ago, I decided to mix things up and do the free 7-day trial with HUSTL. I converted to a paid member.
What I’m loving about HUSTL in my current season:
Convenience.
September is a busy month. Summer comes to an end and everyone is getting back to things, whether it’s back to school or just back to routine. HUSTL curates workouts for each month. If you don’t have time to do your own planning or want a break from deciding what to do today—they have you covered!
The workouts are low to no-equipment. And, while I might benefit from picking up a lighter set of weights (my 15lb dumbbells are too heavy to be sustainable for a lot of the exercises), I get a good sweat in anyway and feel like I’m strengthening my entire body, all from my living room, under 40-45 minutes.
Low Impact.
You know those HIIT workouts where you feel you’re hopping around the entire time? You break a sweat, but you also worry you might break something more? HUSTL gets you sweating without endless bouncing and air-time & many of the workouts are apartment friendly (so your neighbours won’t hate you).
Low impact does not mean low effectiveness. Not with HUSTL, at least. These workouts are TOUGH and in just a few weeks I’ve noticed changes in my body and improvements in my endurance, stability, strength.
Core.
My first couple years in the gym, I didn’t know what my core was. I remember working with a trainer who pointed out I somehow managed to disengage my core in every lift. Forgetting to engage your core is dangerous when lifting, but your core is also a key part of your day-to-day life! Knowing how to engage and use it has some pretty essential benefits.
A lot of the workouts and trainers in HUSTL incorporate pilates and barre and not only do many exercises target core directly, the trainers are great at giving you reminders through all the exercises to be engaging that core.
Vibe
Honestly? HUSTL is a vibe. At first I wasn’t sure when the trainers said “I love you” and “you can”, but it works. Paired with their curated Spotify playlists, you are good to go and have a great workout!
Happy sweating friends <3
